In 2011 I ran a 25K. The race was called the Grand Rapids River Bank Run in Grand Rapids. MI. The event is held in May every year and I signed up in Dec. The longest distance is a 25K along the Grand River and heading back downtown.
When you signed up for the race, you were put into different categories based on age, gender, and weight. Men and women had their own prizes and their were additional prizes based on the runner's age.
What I remember vividly, is that if you were over 220 lbs, you were in the Clydesdale division. I suppose this was a "non-offensive" term for heavier runners. Still, I remember thinking, "If I lost another 20 lbs training, I would STILL be in the Clydesdale category."
Well, I never slimmed down enough to not be a Clydesdale.
But, if I stay disciplined, and I succeed at this, I will finally be out of the Clydesdale division. That alone will make it all worth it for me.
