Hi All,
I'm excited to get going! My primary goal is to compete in 3 Spartan races next year & finish in top 10%: The Socal Beast in January, Vegas in April, and Tahoe mid Summer (date TBA). My 30ish extra lbs I feel have been holding me back and its time to leave them in the dust.
I spent a ton of time developing my training program. Its a combo of several programs. For running (The Spartan Beast is 13+ miles long) it's a half marathon training program by Hal Higdon. The strength portion is modified Crossfit and Spartan WODs. Rest days are stretch, yoga, and cold water baths, all of which have worked for me in the past.
For nutrition, I have been (not strict) Paleo for almost 2 years now. I've made some adjustments that I feel will help me shed the pounds. Yes, I know that Paleo is not for everyone, and I was extremely skeptical before I tried it for 1 month. I am a firm believer now that wheat/gluten spikes your blood sugar and causes lows and excessive hunger right before meals. I've never felt better and have lost about 20 lbs. Secondly, my generation was brain washed into thinking fat makes you fat, when more and more research is saying carbs make you fat.
A rough outline is:
Eating 500 calories at 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm. (I know that's 2500 cals/day, but keep in mind I plan on running about 20 miles/week + strength work) My daily burn should be in the 3500-4000 cal range.
Meal #1: 1 piece of fruit, 4 eggs with veges
Meals 2 & 3: 1 piece of fruit, 150 grams of lean meat, All the veges I want (Non-Startchy)
Meals 4 & 5: 150 grams of lean meat, Veges, a fat (Olive Oil, Nuts, etc)
+ No more than 2 light beers or glasses of wine/day
