So, I attempted my first DietBet and lost. I started out doing incredibly well, at least as far as my habits go. I thought it was a little strange that I'd stay under MyFitnessPal's suggested 1500 calories, walk 10,000+ steps several days a week and not lose an ounce. I know it's not healthy, but there were a couple of days where I didn't even get 1000 calories - not on purpose. I was more focused on making healthy, filling choices. I wasn't hungry after dinner and by then I'd notice how few calories I'd comsumed. Still, the scale barely moved, sometimes it moved up.
In the midst of that, I got my TSH test results. Previously, I'd been hyperthyroid, but recently, I had half of my thyroid removed and apparently that sent me in to major hypothyroidism (that's the sluggish one where you gain weight, both versions are miserable). Seriously though. A result of 5 is considered on the very highest end of normal, and mine was at 20. I asked the doctor if it was a typo. She started me on new meds as soon as she got the results, before I even went in for a visit. Unfortunately, we caught this at the end of the bet, so I lost.
What else did I lose? I lost my FitBit. My little clip on motivator, showing me how far I'd walked, how many steps, how many calories. It was like a little game that motivated me, but somehow it fell off of my pants.
Oh right and I usually weigh in when I wake up, before I have any heavy food in my stomach. I hit "upload" this morning and got distracted. Of course, my photos didn't upload and I didn't remember until this evening when I was 2 lbs heavier from whatever I"ve ingested during the day. Good times!
It was a rough month, but now I'm on medicine that will hopefully work. I purchased a Misfit Shine (although I'm still unsure if I like it, but it's attached to my wrist so hopefully I won't lose it this time!). Starting back on the wagon a year older than I was last month. I'm looking at my bank account and realizing I need to do this for more than health reason. I can do this!
Oddly enough, although the scale barely moved, my pants somehow got bigger, so I guess I did something right!
