Life changes every single day. As much as you try to be prepared and set yourself up for alternative solutions, things happen that are unexpected. The point here is not to try to be prepared for everything but to be prepared for change. It’s really not about finding a solution but knowing how to step back, assess the situation with a cool head and determine the best course moving forward.
Think of oil and water. You can shake it up and it will mix and you won’t be able to tell one from the other. But let it sit for a while and the two will separate. Every bad day will have both good and bad all shaken up together. Step back and let it settle and the two will separate so you can extract the positive – and there will be positive – from the mix. Then discard what’s left.
We all see and hear advertisements for weight loss pills, procedures, and programs. There's usually a celebritity telling us how wonderful they are and how much weight they lost. At closer inspection we find something else:
- Price too high actual results too low
- Interaction with other medications unknown
- Doctor does not advise
- Unforeseen issues
After all is said and done you still have to eat to live. Sometimes things just look too good on the surface.
You remember the story of Snow White? The kids love that one. For example:
- Hated by her step mother (What did she every do to her?)
- Runs away from home (How does a Princess survive?)
- Live with 7 drawfs who work in the mines (Good clean occupation)
- Laundry, cleaning, scrubbing floors and cooking for the 7 little guys (Was that in her resume? Anybody out there have kids?)
- Step-mother (in disguise) gives her poison apple (Don't take food from strangers)
- Sleeps (Finally)
- Prince Charming kisses her – all is well – (Where was he when she was scrubbing those floors?)
I’m just not convinced that it’s a great message! So her happiness is dependent on a vagabond Prince Charming finding her deep in the woods with 7 little guys who just lost their housekeeper. Maybe a closer look before Snow is selected as the role model. There was no magic pill in her life, just hard work and determination.
Things happen in everyone’s life every day. Create your own fairy tale and your own happily ever after. Everything is not always as it seems on the surface. Be kind, be understanding, be tolerant -- most of all be happy!
