It's been talked about and thought about for a long time. Now the time has finally come to do something. Move something and shake it up a bit.
In April a friend invited me to join DietBet. What a useful tool I thought as I rushed to join a game. Then unprepared I let the game go on with out much thought and of course lost. Funny though, I turned around and signed up for a Transformer game. Crazy right?! Or you could say, I'm all in!
Some changes I've made during the second month of the Transformer.
I am horrible at meal planning. I also have a few food allergies including eggs (whites and yolk) and dairy (caesin protien). So, I signed up online for the Forks Over Knives Meal Planner which is a whole food plant based diet. Due to the nature of the diet it is fairly low cal but I can add meat or anything I feel I need at the time. The meal planning is working out fantastic. Not only are the meals delicious and filling, my husband has been enoying them too! Choose the meals you'd like to make for the week, click over to the next tab to retrieve a shopping list (awesome), then take a look at the weekend prep. This has really been working wonderfully for us. We leave room in the week (usually weekends) for dedicated grilling as it is summer :) http://www.forksoverknives.com/
Another first, I have signed us up to receive a meal kit service one a week. I chose Green Chef due to their vegan options. The service also offers omnivore, carnivore, paleo and vegitarian options. Friday was the first delivery. Everything in the box is organic and sustainable. The box came with all of the ingredients needed to make three recipes. The items are color coded to match the recipe cards. The recipe cards are very detailed and all of the items in the box looked fresh and beatiful. We will be making our first Green Chef meal this evening. http://greenchef.com/invite/xdpqqm
What about desert? I have found some great sherbert and smoothie recipes that I make popsicles with. Mostly fruit with almond or coconut milk, a little vanilla and spice. I found a recipe in Vegetarian Times that is one of my favorites! I've tweeked it a little but this is similar. A pound of frozen mango, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp vanilla, 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper, 3/4 cup almond creamer, lime zest.. blend, freeze, enjoy! (optional: add shot of vodka or tequilla)
My will power is standing tall and really coming to bat for me as summer kicks in and there are so many distractions presenting themselves. Part of this is that I really want to lose the bonus weight and be healthy. I want to fit back into my favorite pair of jeans tucked away in the bottom of my drawer.
Being accountable for what I put in my mouth. Whole grains, lots of fruit and veggies, wild-caught fish, no added oil or sugar, and other meat as an option once a week. A glass of wine or two, or a beer, (not beating myself up over enoying an adult beverage) but aiming at sipping instead of drinking.
I've been aiming at taking a three mile walk each day but to be honest does not always happen. So we'll say I hit that about four times a week.
Since I started DietBet I've lost seven pounds. I like seven.. I can't wait to share that I lost seven more!
