85 pounds ago I ate everything that was on a roller grill, in a square cardboard box, or came with fries, if not it was in a foam cup, tin can or big acetate bag that doesn't ever tear open well and doesn't re-seal. Get the point? I ate the worst junk and way too much of it. Here's a list of what to eat and why.
1. Every meal and snack fresh fruits are the best choices of all. Fruit is rich in nutrients and the calories are there but not empty. You get great value for calories when you eat fresh. Good flavors and varieties are available at most every community we live in. I deliver to Walmart every day and am amazed at what is available from both local and distant foreign lands. Some types can be easy and convenient like, apples, bananas, peaches, plums, pears, etc . Others take some work such as melons, pineapples, citrus, etc., but it's well worth the effort and taking the extra time is a good dietary tactic. Berries are great in combination with other foods. I have seen some of my best weight loss when I ate GRAPEFRUIT. I believe that fruit is where the bulk of the calorie budget should be spent.
2. Protein needs to be lean. When I get meat, I choose the leanest cuts, remove all fat and/or skin and enjoy it for what it is. No need for grease, bread crumbs, or batter here. I also keep the portion limited to the size of my hand palm. I personally mostly use shrimp ,chicken breast or pork loin in small amounts in vegetable soup. Eggs are also a good source, especially the whites. Each week I easily eat over a dozen boiled eggs. Low-fat ham and turkey are great in salads. Protein is necessary for the maintenance of strength, stamina, and metabolism.
3. Vegetable soup and salads are my main courses. Each week before I go out on the road, I make a kettle of vegetable soup filled with what my garden, local store, and freezer have to offer in the way of low calorie but nutrition rich veggies. I portion, freeze, and pack it in the ice cooler to be reheated throughout the week. Salads are also great, be creative and put what you love in small amounts. I hear others complain about salads being boring at times. Just put good additions into it like berries, lean meat. even tiny portions of nuts, seeds, dried fruit and low-cal dressing.
4. Eat those vegetables even if it takes excessive seasoning to do it. Prepare them the best you can with the least calories possible. I go bold with spices and herbs, lemon and butter flavored cooking spray. I love to combine veggies and am Asian influenced with stir fry and chop suey recipes. If you can stand it, raw celery has less calories than it takes to digest.
