Through the stress and the daily struggles of college, losing weight while in college is a real challenge. I have worked at losing weight and working on a healthier me many times in college but after a few weeks, the drive that initially began my quest dwindled out and I returned to poor eating habits and little exercise. I currently work a part-time job at a local veterinary hospital and the struggles I face daily with balancing school and work and living across town drive my bad eating habits. Fast food and eating out are my go-to's since they are quick and easy and I am able to grab something while I am running in between school and work. I currently live at home with my family for financial reasons while in college, and I love my family, but eating healthy can be a very hard challenge while being at home. Snack foods and high calorie meals are something that my family has grown accustomed to.
I have decided to start my DietBet journey to find people like me to help me in this challenge I want to overcome. The goal is not to just lose weight but to become a more healthy and efficient person in my day-to-day life. I want to become more active, go on hikes and become accustomed to a workout routine, not just change my diet for 4 weeks. I have a very stong support system and I think that this is the solution that I have been looking for to help encourage me to achieve my goals.
The photo attached is of me and my grandma (I call her Gongy). We traveled to Hawaii for my 20th birthday this January and some of the photos of me really brought me down. I hate having full body pictures taken of myself, especially now that I have gained more weight. It was hard to enjoy myself while simultaneously covering up my body the entire trip. My goal is to be comfortable with my body so that on my next vacation I will be able to enjoy my appearance and my vacation.
Thankfully this DietBet doesn't begin until 5/16. It is currently finals week at UNR, the college I attend, and it has been a stressful last few weeks. I am hoping to begin eating healthy as of now but the two last finals I have this week may throw a wrench in those plans. Hopefully I will stay sane enough to at least start with my diet changes and then incorporate exercise in as summer begins.
Signing off from the beginning of my long and exciting journey,
Heather E.
