So my approach to eating is based off of paleo. Which means getting back to the basics of food. I know there are people that aren't a fan of paleo and to each their own but the thought behind paleo is sound. If you eat something that is preserved and processed so many times how is that really feeding your body. I love carbs just like the rest of the human race but eating carbs is what got me to the current range of 300 lbs. (mmmm mac n cheese) So I decided to feed my body real food instead of preservatives.
Pros and cons of eating paleo/organic.
Pros: finding new flavors, you feel lighter, you are hungrier (just means your metabolism is doing its job), you get to eat a little more, you like cheese and pasta a little less, you have more energy, you learn to love farmers markets(Des Moines downtown market is the best, I miss it alot), and the list goes on.
Cons: it is expensive, fresh fruit spoils faster (specially if you live some where tropical or hot), everything these day's says gluten free or organic (lots of these items aren't either), and it is a challenge to eat out.
For eating healthier or whatever method you choose it is always best to make a budget, do your research, don't go hungry, and be willing to try weird things. When I started doing paleo last year I saw a big difference in how I looked, felt, and acted in a short period of time. When I stopped being active, changed my budget, and gave up eating real food I could tell the difference immediately. You know the saying 'fat and happy' it wasn't true for me. I had gained back my weight plus some and I have been hiding since. So day 1 of 28 (really more like day 5 for me because I started as soon as I signed up) feeling like I am heading in the right direction again and can't wait to eat my snack of prosciutto and pear (I splurged).
