I took my dog out for a walk this morning. I haven't walked around my tiny little town in Northern California is a few months. It's sad really. It felt so good to be out and about. To top it off I banged out 5827 steps.
Trying to get back in shape so I can start racing again. But that's the story of my life...seems like it's been a long road since my last half marathon back in April 2011.
In 2010 I started a Facebook group called 50x50 challenge. I started the group because I wanted to lose 50 lbs by my 50th birthday. Well...I am almost 52 years old and I now a little over those same 50 lbs to lose. Life can be so frustrating, but I keep plugging along, determined some day to lose those 50 lbs.
In the fall of 2011 I started having sciatic problems and then the weekend of my 50th birthday in January 2012 I had a very back scaitic attack and spent 4 days in massive pain on the floor. WELCOME TO YOUR 50's. I spent several months on major medication and had to use a walker. When everyone at work asked me "What happened?" I replied "I TURNED 50!".
In 2013 I participated in the Global Corporate Challenge thru my work. I walked a lot during those 16 weeks and proved to myself that I could still race if I pushed myself.
Earlier this spring I participated in the Nor Cal Tour de Fit series, racing in small 5-10ks. I was only able to participate in 3 races when my grand daughter was born and my whole world suddenly revolved around her. Now that she is 5 months old I am able to get some of my freedom back and looking to get back in shape.
I just joined the 6 month TRANSFORMER DietBet. My motto has always been GO BIG OR GO HOME! This 6 month challenge is no different! I have 56.8 lbs to lose to reach my goal weight. If I only lose 10% in 6 months, that will be only about 19 lbs. If you just did the math, you now know how much I really weight *GASP*. That seems like really slow progress, but it's more than I've been able to do in TWO YEARS! So here's where I challenge myself - the GO BIG part.
If I participated in 6 separate DietBet 4 challenges over the next 6 months, I would be required to lose 4% for each month. After 6 months that would be a total of 24% lost or a total of 46 lbs. NOW THAT'S PROGRESS!
I'm going to treat this 6 month Dietbet 10 like 6 monthly DietBet 4 challenges. I might not lose 4% every month, but I figure if I make that my goal I will land somewhere in between 10% and 24%. Either way I will have lost more weight and in the end will have more money in my pocket.
I know myself very well to know that the TWO MAJOR PITFALLS to losing weight for me are 1) not planning ahead and 2) not tracking my calories. If I can stay focused on these two items I know I can be successful.
