Well after my tumble off my bike 2 days ago, I was soar. I didn't let getting thrown keep me from commuting by bike, but I know I'll be battling fear for a while. I have no broken bones, but I am swollen with bruised up and down my left side. I have no concussion, but some whiplash in my neck. I am forever grateful for the strength I have built over the last several months and for my helmet, which dented and cracked in multiple places to save my head from harm. I am recovering, all be it far slower than I want. I have become a more cautious rider, some of that is good and some I hope to overcome. Today I wanted to show myself that I could still ride and cover distance, so off I went for a ride, stopping for various activities along the way, I managed to clock more than 34 miles. Not bad, even if I’m moving quite a bit slower than I used to be, but some of that may well be due to the heat – up in the 90s with equal humidity, ugh.

Getting injured puts such a crimp in the ability to exercise. I’m delighted that I can still bike and walk, but strength training and yoga will have to get put on hold for a week or so. I’ll be making an effort to get in the water and swim, a nice supported exercise, over the next week or two. Just as I need to be flexible with my diet, perpetually tweaking to find what works to loose weight, and with my exercise while on vacation, injury is another place where flexibility is a key for moving forward along with a good attitude of course. Today I’m happy, smiling and delighted to be up and moving.
