Growing up in SoCal with my parents and older brother, I was always the skinniest of the 4 of us. We were all active - we had horses (13 at one time) and there was always something to do outside. I snowboarded avidly in the winter. When I wasn't outside I was usually sitting with my brother watching him play video games, until I was about 13 and I started joining him in those games. In my senior year in high school (2003) I was 5'10 and about 130lbs.
Fast forward to when I was about 18 and I met my soon to be husband in World of Warcraft. He lived in MN, so we met up in Vegas, visited eachother a few times until I decided to move out of my parent's place and live with him out in Minneapolis.
I quickly ran into some problems and started gaining weight. I blame it mostly on beer and the fact that it's hard to get outside every day from Dec-April when it's freezing and snowy. I thought skinniness was in my genetics but I guess that was too good to be true. I'm a gamer so a lot of my spare time is spent on my butt, unfortunately.
And now here we are in 2015. This is my 9th year in MN and I now weigh about 200lbs. I went from the skinniest to the heaviest in my family. My various attempts at losing weight were all half-hearted. Last year I managed to get down to 173 but it came right back and then some. I was 198 before the holidays, and I weighed 207 when I started Dietbet in January. A size 8 when I moved here in 2006, now I'm a size 16.
My husband (who is also a diet better) and I got SCUBA certified last year, open water, then advanced open water. We fell in love with the sport. We'd like to become rescue divers this year, but I know we need to be in way better physical shape.
I know achieving my high school weight is pretty unrealistic, but I think 150 is achievable, and I'll be thrilled if I can make it to 160. I've found diet bet to be the most motivating program I've tried so far so I'm hoping it can keep me going for the whole 6 months. I plan on losing more than the 10% of the game, I want to join the rest of my family in being fit an fabulous! Wear jeans without having a muffin top!
