I lost 20 lbs last year, then we spent 3 months in Hawaii and I gained 15 of it back... and after a long, hard summer, I realized I am right back to where I started last January... I need to lose weight and I need to lose it for good. And the Dietbet seemed like as good an idea as any to kickstart my losing streak again.
The approach:
DIET: My portion sizes have crept up again, and I've also slacked off with my daily quotient of fruits and veggies. So my plan is to:
1) measure my portions
2) eat at least 1 green vegetable each lunch and dinner and add in some salads now and then.
3) Be mindful of healthier entrees on Tuesdays -- when I go out for lunch after our book club discussions AND I eat out at our ukulele group's meet-up.... no more avocado-bacon-cheeseburgers followed by kahulua pork platters...
4) No more late night eating If it's after 8, it can wait... this is hard when I get home at 8:30pm after a long day, but I will aim to stick with a no-night rule most of the time -- which will cut out the mindless munching during the 10pm news.
EXERCISE: I already walk 2-3 miles most mornings. And I meet with a trainer once a week to do strength training. A heel spur is limiting my ability to do standing exercises and sometimes it hurts to go faster. So my plan is to:
1) Keep walking every morning and up my distance/speed as possible
2) Increase the frequency of strength training to 2x week and actually practice the routine at HOME at least once a week.
3) Add some basic yoga stretches back into my life.
