Last August, I got the gift of a lifetime. My daughter had struggled for years in her desire to become a mother. I so badly wanted to be a grandmother, but knew that I had to put on the game face and while sympathetic of her disappointments. Life would go on for her and for me, it was just going to sadly be without babies in our life.
My daughter's husband, Jon encouraged her that they should try one more time. He had read about a specialist that had incredible success rates with women like her. While she was ready to give up, he wasn't, so she made the appointment and secretly hoped. Well, as you can see in the photograph, a miracle happened and she had two precious little girls, Samantha and Summer. They are the lights of our lives and have brought a kind of joy that is difficult to describe. My heart tingles just thinking about them :)
It was time for me to make a choice that would help me not only feel better about myself, but also be the kind of grandma that does a lot more than bake cookies. For as long as life allows, I want to be as healthy as I can so, I can be very involved in their lives. While they are only 9 months now, I want to be on the floor with them playing, I want to take them for walks in the neighborhood, I want to ride my bike beside them when they start to ride their wheels, I want to show them the beautiful pieces of nature that you can only see on a hike...I make a choice to be healthy so, I can love them as an active, wild, fun, loving and most of all lucky grandma.
