The things that help me the most are logging EVERYTHING I eat. Everything. Like everything. I'm susceptible to taking a bite here, a nibble there, popping a couple of these while I'm cooking, etc. But when I log it's either too much of a hassle to look up "2 pringles" to bother putting them in my mouth or a very real (shameful!) list of mindless eating. Both principals work well for me. I've also found that blogging (and reading blogs) help me keep my mind centered. It's not foolproof, of course, but if I can keep my head in the game and motivated, I succeed. Thanks for blogging, and good luck to you!
