Can we talk about the Terms of Service Chances that Dietbet just made public ? (how is noone talking about this ?)
1. Your money will be converted to points.
2. Points will be invalidated after 12 months of not using them.
I cannot begin to tell you how pissed i am, i will quit dietbet and pay out all my founds immediately as soon as this game is over. So what exactly happened ?
Well they had to convert your money into points so you don't have "money" on your account anymore. It's a simple conversion that has multiple effects... in alot of countries when you have storecredit or similar you have to have this amount of cash ready incase people want to cash themselves out, it s a legal requirement. Not so much with points or converted "currency".
Another reason is so they can pull through with Point 2 above. They could never invalidate your cash, but they can say bye bye to your points much easier. Because, well you accepted those terms of service didnt you.
12 months of inactivatity means if you do well with your weight and dont need or want to use Dietbet, or whatever your reasons are, your money is bye bye. So you better remember that you have money here. Thats just bad customer service and personally i hope that many people follow suit like me.
They already took 40% of your winnings each time and that sounded like a sustainable (albeit bit extreme but i'm here to lose weight, not make money) businessmodel and i was personally ok with it. But to make money with invalidating money because people will forget about it ?
I'm sorry.. its a dick move. I'm not happy at all. People, please start to care about your rights as consumers.

Sign in to CommentThank you! I was just about to write them a letter, but I thought I'd come to see what people were saying here, and yes, I agree. Personally, other than finding it distasteful, I think it's probably illegal, at least in some US states.IANAL, but I believe one of the reason companies can make rewards points (like frequent flier miles) expire is because those points have no cash equivalent. DietBet is not covered by that aspect, since they DO let you convert to cash at any point (if it's not tied up in a game) unless they dramatically change the rules. That makes it much more like gift cards where abandonment laws would come into play. But yeah, worse is that it makes it feel like they're trying to pull something over on loyal customers from whom they already seem to take a decent percent. At some point somebody is going to get screwed because of this rule even if it doesn't affect most competitors. That's precisely the sort of rule change a good customer service organization should avoid.
