Some people are ready to hit the panic button when it comes to holidays. But this fitness girl is more than ready to receive that big beautiful bird on her plate, in her salad, and many work lunches. Yes we are going to enjoy that big turkey. Just not all in one sitting! ;)
You know you don't want to loose your progress in one meal or in one holiday celebration. Good news is one holiday meal in a month won't hurt you or a day of festivities even. You loose grip when it is many indulgences, repeat and now it is kinda habit. That is the trouble to avoid.
So moderation is and was always key. Good news is one meal will not set you back. So you can have a healthy lifestyle and memorable holidays too.
Let's focus on what matters most to us on the holidays. Write a list or even start a Pintrest page. First is usually family and friends. Traditions and Turkey second and so forth.
So Traditions is great because not all traditions are around food. Much is around family and what you do together as a family. That is usually the substance of good holiday memories. One new and popular tradition is the Turkey trot or a family walk or hike on Thanksgiving. So these are new traditions too not just old ones. Traditions not centered around food can often be more memorable. So it could be board games. Cooking together and other things as well. Something to consider is what your familys physical capacity and limitations are before signing everyone up for a 5k. A walk is a great start and that distance could grow over time.
Turkey is the other holiday given that also has me relaxed and grateful. It is a really healthy option. So are green beans, asparagus, and many roasted vegetables. Salads too. Spinach is a favourite. Limit your starchy stuff if you want to lean it down. Turnup instead of potatoes different versions of stuffing to experiment with. Dessert go to for me is pumpkin pie. I think this is one of the healthiest desert choices. These are so many healthy desert recipes. Have some fun trying new ones. Hope everyone has an Amazing thanksgiving. Cheers (might be water in my wine glass or perhaps wine)
Happy Healthy Thanksgiving!
