So, 2016 pretty much rocked for me (sorry to everyone else). I started taking my health seriously...which has resulted in some pretty big changes.
It hasn't all been sunshine and lollipops. There have been some struggles. My health team suggested I review the reasons I wanted to make changes. And there's no point in doing homework if you don't share with the class.
Essentially, I didn't want to be on the sidelines anymore. I didn't want to opt out of hiking, running, trying tennis, and skiing/snowboarding because I was physically unable. I didn't want to be a cheerleader anymore. I wanted to be a participant.
While this has been much easier at my new lighter weight, it's still been a process. In 2016, I participated in a 5 km walk, a 5 km run, the Kid's version of the Spartan, family hikes, and snowboarding (which I will likely blog about more down the road).
It's hard to imagine that 2017 can be better, but I do have some lofty goals:
- get to 100 lbs lost (20 more to go!)
- go snowshoeing a few times
- run consistently
- run 3-4 5km races
- continue learning to snowboard and go 3-4 more times before the snow melts
- run the kid's Spartan (I have no interest in the crappy burpee adult version)
- successfully complete a 'real' burpee
- and (maybe) complete the 25 km bike ride for Ride Don't Hide (this is a maybe because I don't love cycling)
I know it's not going to be easy. There are definitely going to be days that I eat the cookie (and tell my sister to buggar off). But there are going to be days that I get my butt off the couch even though I really don't want to.
So, here's to an awesome 2017. Let's rock this!
