I hate running, I truly do, but I started running because with running you can set goals. I started getting good at this running thing and my speed was increasing, I was losing weight (20 pounds to be exact), and started running races. However, two months ago, my plantar fasciitis flared up big time and I was unable to run, oh I tried, but I broke down in tears on the treadmill in front of everyone at the gym – the pain is/was that bad. I knew I had to hang up my running shoes, at least for now. I became depressed, how the hell was I supposed to lose weight now? I didn't, I gained seven pounds in two months because I can’t even walk without pain. Crap. Enter total body conditioning class on Fridays and weights on Wednesdays with cardio (light walking, elliptical) the rest of the days. This has been the answer. I am now down four pounds in 1 1/2 weeks. I have my good and bad days, and I do try to run on my good days. I have a 10K and 10-mile race coming up, not sure I can run them, but I’m not giving up on this dreadful running thing yet. Dietbet seemed to be the kick I needed, I'm someone that needs and thrives on competition.

I am in the same boat with running! I hate it, but I love what it does for me, so I love it. Guess I am not the only one. I have very little cartilage in my left knee, so I need to be careful. I am trying to run once per week on the causeway that goes out to one of the barrier islands here in Charleston. It is a 3.4 mile round trip. I haven't made the whole thing yet as a solid run, but I know as long as my body holds up I will get there. Good luck on your races! (And yes, the competition aspect of Dietbet is fueling me too!)
