Tonight was EPIC.

EPIC, I tell you!

Tonight, I experienced a moment usually only observed in sappy movies and Nicholas Spark's novels.

You see, I have been sick all week and unable to do any exercise.  This is highly unusual for me because, not only have I not been sick in 3 years... I just do not skip workouts.  So, to miss a whole week was torture.

Funny thing is that I finally started losing weight again - maybe because I was so sick - or maybe because I was too scared to eat since I was unable to workout.  Either way, I won.... well, lost.

Anyway, back to my EPIC moment.

I decided that even though I still felt crappy, I was not skipping my run tonight.  I have a race coming up in 2 weeks and I could just feel all the training I had put in evaporating into thin air.

So, I got dressed and headed out the door.  The first quarter mile was a struggle.  I felt clammy and sluggish and... well... sick.  I wondered if I should just turn around and head home.

But then, the EPIC moment happened.  At around the 1/2 mile point, I suddenly realized that no matter how the rest of me felt, my legs were strong and alive.  I was running - not slow like I had planned - but running fast and free!  I actually heard my legs say...

***warning this is the sappy dime-store novel part***

"Don't worry!  We've got this!"

I could not believe that after 7 days of sitting around doing nothing but feeling miserable, my legs hadn't skipped a beat.  I still knew how to run.  I was still fit!

I would say that after 2 years and almost 2,000 miles of running this was the first time I felt like I was someone who is fit because I am a runner... not just someone who runs to get fit.

I finished my regular 4 mile route in faster than average time, and then came home and immediately weighed myself

because...

well - weigh outs are this week and you never know :)
