Shin Splints . . . and I don't run

That's perseverance! There's really no need to run to burn calories; walking burns too. Your doctor is right about the stretching. Your shin muscles are what flex your foot with each step so it's important to keep them limber. Another thing that might help is insoles to help support your arches. It's surprising how much maintenance your body needs when you're training it to be more active.

As far as keeping up with your husband, don't sweat it. Go at your own pace. If anything starts to ache, slow down or stop and stretch immediately. It's hard to reign yourself in when you're so set on getting healthy but it's best to take your time and build those muscles properly.

Last but definitely not least, keep the water and electrolytes (calcium, potassium, etc) flowing, before and after exercise. Try not to get discouraged because you're limited. All your healthy choices add up and you'll get the results you want, just maybe not by your timeline, and that's ok. <3
