Short version:
Jogged a 5K distance. Eye of the Tiger!
Long version:
Haven't jogged a 5K since last October. Gained about 15 lbs since then to a high this year of 288 lbs in mid August. Started Dietbet again and have steadily dropped pounds to be 266 lbs this morning. For workouts, I started doing DDP Yoga and added in jogging in mid September. Was able to jog up to 2.25 miles outdoors without stopping until 3 weeks ago when I forced a jog when I wasn't feeling that great and ended up pulling my left calf muscle and could barely walk. Had to have my wife oick me up because I could not walk the 1.25 miles back to my car. Before the injury, I was going to sign up for a couple of official 5Ks in Nov and Dec. Glad I didn't sign up! Did no exercise at all for 2 weeks but ate healthy so pounds till dropped. Finally started feeling better last week and did some yoga with some light jogging but mostly walking on the treadmill. Did not want to attempt anything outdoors just in case I reinjure the leg and have to get picked up again. Two days ago, I decided to rest the legs and just do yoga so I can attempt to jog again outdoors this morning.
So we come to today. Only slept 4.5 hours. Did yoga for a really good stretch before the attempt. Was planning on going slow and just see how far I could go. First mile felt good. Second mile I went a little slower to keep my heart rate steady. At this point, I was thinking I shouldn't push it and walk the rest of the way. Got to 2.25 and said, what the heck and decided to keep going. Reach the next light pole. Jog to the next stop sign. Go past the fork in the road. All the while Runkeeper kept giving telling me the distance and pace. Mile 3, I think I might actually complete the entire lake! FINISHED!
Stats: 3.21 miles, 38 min, 11:49 pace, 688 cal burned
Yoga and jog done before 7am.
Bonus was that when I got back in the car for the drive home, Eye of the Tiger played on the radio!
Guess I'm going sign up for those 5Ks now!
