Sometimes what you see as a "people" problem is a "situation" problem. Was there tempting food around the house? Have you been tempted all day and finally cracked at night? Also, what did you eat towards the end of the night. Francy cuts (lowers) carbs at night and eats a whole egg (the fat n protein keep you full) as her snack before bed. She used to be a person who would get up in the middle of the night and eat. This has helped tremendously along with not having certain trigger foods around. BUt if this was just a "moment of weakness" you have the right mentality. Start fresh!
