After loving the Les Mills classes that my former gym offers and trying to save some money for my upcoming wedding (June/July of this year), I decided to order the Beachbody Les Mills Body Combat DVDs. I got a good deal on them from the official beachbody site for about $55 after shipping and taxes. That's about the cost of a month membership at my gym. I ordered them the day before New Year's Eve and received them today. I'm so excited to try this system and hope that it will be fun enough for me to stick to.
I'm very pleased with the quality of the materials that came with the system so far. It came with a set of gloves (not sure if I'm actually going to use these but I might as well try them since I have them), a fitness guide, a nutrition guide, a measuring tape, and 5 dvds. It also came with a guide that helps you record your starting measurements and how to take "before" pictures so that when you take your jaw dropping "after" pictures, you can submit them to beachbody for a free tshirt. I don't think I'll ever submit my before pictures to anyone but I will be taking some tomorrow for motivation.
I previewed a couple of the workouts and the regular body combat ones (suggested to do three times a week) are very similar to what I had seen in the body combat classes at my gym. However, the HIIT workouts (to do two times a week) are a whole other monster! The is one called power which used low weights for high reps (similar to pump but with more cardio) and there is one called plyo which of course uses plyometrics. I think I may have to follow the modifications for a while one the HIIT workouts but they do look like a lot of fun, regardless.
I will try to blog about my progress frequently to help hold me accountable to sticking to these workouts.
