As my last blog pointed out I pulled my back on Monday at the gym, far short of my required 60 minutes of High Intensity workout and even further from my usual calories burned. Then Tuesday came around and I pretty much laid about like a cat on a window ledge on a sunny day doing nothing.
I received a lot of get wells and good wishes from DietBetters and for that I am grateful.
Thank you.
Then the harsh reality of the math set in. Yes, it is true that eating less than one burns off in a day will lead to weight loss. But we aren't talking merely weight loss here, we're talking 4% of body weight in 28 days. And that is some serious freakin' effort.
There are only so many calories used in a day for bodily functions, the basal metabolism rate or BMR. This rate is, of course, lower when one is laying all day in bed. What's worse, if you don't eat the minimum, your body generally goes into starvation mode which is a downward spiral in and of itself.
So simply put, taking my BMR and minimum calorie intake per day, I wind up far, far short of the calorie deficit per day I'm required to maintain to win these bets. What's worse is compounding, each day I miss, I need to spread that over the days remaining in a dietbet. Again, downward spiral.
Had this happened a few days ago, I would merely kiss my $30 goodbye on my bets, keep calm, and continue on with reduced food intake to maintain some weight loss. But timing is everything, and mine generally sucks so this is not the case.
One does not simply loose a Jen Widerstrom DietBet.
She never had a DietBetter who was a "runner up", and I don't intend to be on the list of firsts.
So, I took some Aleve, and hit the gym. Didn't come close to my high intensity numbers, but I did get in 32 minutes (half required for the day) and got 2300+ calories burned off. Again, short of my usual but still enough to balance out and give me a calorie deficient which should keep my weight loss on track.
Icing down my back and then heading to bed.
Good luck to everyone and avoid getting injured, if possible.
