Lori W.

I really want to feel better and at 59 with 100 extra pounds I feel terrible! As a nurse, I also know the chance of getting diabetes is higher. I also have sleep apnea that is due to the weight. That is bad for my heart.

It's important that you incorporate both aerobic (cardio) and strength training specific to the areas with OA. If you can tolerate walking for 10 min at a time, that is a good place to start. Begin at a pace that is comfortable for you. Try strengthening your quads with some sit-to-stand exercises and some body weight squats keeping your abs tight through all exercises. You can do sit-to-stand during commercial breaks!

Thanks for the info. I am going to try walking on my treadmill for 10 minutes 1 or 2 times a day. Now I don't know about sit to stand as I have torn meniscus in both knees so I don't think they would take my weight on that sort of exercise.

Lor, here's a video about the progression of therapy/exercises with torn menisci. I don't know where you are with your injury so I thought this info might help. Good luck!!

Lori, do you have RA or OA? Not knowing your history, etc. I don't want to say/"prescribe" too much, but I would love to help point you in the right direction. The important thing to remember is that you know your body better than anyone so work on exercises as you can tolerate.
