For some music helps. I like to run with music. Having said that be sure that you can hear what is going on around you. Even experienced runners have days that are harder than others Hang in there you're doing great.

Good for you for starting a running program! I am too scared to even try in fear of damaging my knees.! Are you doing a couch to 5 K program? That is the one I have tried in the past and would try again once I get enough excess weight off to alleviate the joints a little.
