I really believe that avoiding sugar completely is the best thing for me: I have tried moderation and it just eventually escalates into eating desserts every day multiple times. Thing is, the idea of eliminating sugar isn't that popular. Seems a lot of people think that's too harsh and all-or-nothing, etc. What are your thoughts?

OMG how were you around all that baking without eating any of it? I love to bake cakes and cupcakes and I'm good at it but it's always a disaster for me. I think that's what I struggle with the most: handling and preparing the foods I know I shouldn't have. I'm so used to nibbling here and there while cooking, and on a bad night I'm not even hungry when I sit down with my family. Ugh!

I’m not saying it was easy but it helped that I am super competitive and my sister dared me that I couldn’t do it. I was determined to prove her wrong, lol.

Hey all, I have felt/known for awhile now that eliminating sugar from my diet would likely be helpful to my health & might curb my sometimes vicious "sweet tooth". I recently read/listened to Bright Line Eating & decided to give it a try. The science Dr. Thompson cites in this book is compelling & was the "why" I needed to make the change. It has not been nearly as difficult as I expected and there is a freedom in not even contemplating the option. I did not lose all the weight I wanted so decided to try DietBet with a friend to get closer to my goal. I am older & don't have a lot to lose, so for me it is more of a challenge, requiring more consistent attention to calories/macro-nutrient balance & activity. I am pleased to find this group. Not eating sugar/sweeteners is quite out of the mainstream, so having others to connect with is nice. Thanks !

  • No Sugar or refined carbs is definitely a challenge for me. And I know when I'm on this commitment, I WILL loose weight. One day at a time ... I've got a vacation planned for a week during this month. I will be strong!

I just joined this group. Today is the first day of DietBet. I am avoiding sugar for 30 days (or more). I am also putting my kids on a "sugar fast" for 30 days as well. During the holidays our sugar consumption was out of control.

How is everyone doing? I've started to change my diet three days ago. I eat mostly vegetables and fruit right now. I feel so much more energetic for the first time in months!

Not only am I a morbidly obsess diabetic, I think I am addicted to sugar. I crave sugar! While most of my friends can eat French fries or chips, here is me eating an almond joy, snickers and chocolate almonds. Then after that fun adventure I get sick and have to lay down, which adds to my weight gain. I would love help and support in this area. I am going to try an stay away from sugar and any refined baked foods. In fact right now eating Irish oatmeal with pecans, Splenda and 2 Tbsp. half and half
