The weather is finally getting warmer, at least in the south eastern United States and that means the swimming pools are starting to open up! We are members of the local YMCA and they have an outdoor pool. This means that 9 months of the year it’s not useable but for the 3 summer months, YEAH! It’s time to swim… with a million kids! Hhmmm
Actually right now, is great because those kids are in school all day! YEAH! This morning was the second morning that the pool was open and basically we had it to ourselves. Us and the two lifeguards.
One of the first things that I noticed was when swimming a lap, I was pooped and winded at the first lap! Then I remembered what the exercise chart from the other day said: stationary cycling vigorous burns up to 977 calories an hour vs swimming laps 931 calories. I can tell you that one lap left me panting and I seldom pant in cycle class! (http://www.nutristrategy.com/caloriesburned.htm)
We didn’t do an entire hour of swimming this morning, but only about 30 minutes. I intended to swim again this afternoon and did not, but I do feel that I received a good workout today but most of all, I enjoyed it. It felt very much like playtime with my husband and when you get right down to it, wouldn’t you prefer to ‘play’ your weight off? I know I would, so take it from me, Go Swimming and work off a bunch of calories.
Also, if you didn’t know, most YMCA memberships are income based with a minimum and maximum membership, family memberships and many have scholarship memberships available, but not all YMCAs have swimming pools.
