The weather is changing and it’s beautiful outside. So what if you don’t have a swimming pool. Grab your bike and take a ride! There are so many places to ride. Many communities have multipurpose trails that are perfect for riding.

There is a nationwide non profit called RAILS TO TRAILS, where the federal government has given back to the citizens public land once used by trains.  Many of these trails are paved and many are very wide.  Almost ever state have a few of these trail systems. Does yours? (http://www.railstotrails.org/)  I always wanted to do a weekend ride in Florida.  There are a few on the west coast which have been joined together for a 40mile (or more) tail system between towns.  I am thinking leisurely ride, bed a breakfast, pictures… lovely weekend.  But I don’t live in Florida any more.  Still I am sure there are trails near you.

Even riding in your neighbor hood burns calories.  How does biking compare? Walking 2 miles per hours (yes, I walk slow) burns 233 calories an hour. Running five miles per hour burns 745 calories. And right there in the middle is Cycling, light pace 10 mph, burning 558 calories an hour! (kick it up a notch and hit 13.9 miles per hour and you burn as much sitting down peddling as you do running 5 miles per hour!)

Also a big plus is that good old vitamin D that mother nature provides and the lovely skin color of a healthy active summer glow.

There you have it.  Lose weight by having fun outdoors! Now, go ride your bike!
