I teach at a boarding school. Our breaks usually don't last a day, which means we normally don't have off for other school vacations: our students live here, so they are expected to go to class. When vacations arrive, we like to have a long weekender, lasting 4 or 5 days or so.
We just had our Long Fall Weekend, and I volunteered to help out on a trip where 5 amazing international students who did not have enough time to fly home or anyone close by to visit traveled into Philly to be tourists.
I know; I lead a charmed life.
But, with travel and being out of my normal element, it's hard to keep to a normal routine or diet. Reading Terminal Market, Philly's Chinatown, a dinner cruise, and unfortunately, soda to keep my energy up and running as we hit the town for each day of touring, usually staying out seeing the sights until about 10pm.
I know #2: #FirstWorldProblems.
So, while I sit at my computer writing academic comments, and procrastinating from writing those comments by writing a DB blog post, I have had my smoothie, have walked 5.5K steps so far today, and am coming out of my soda binge and drinking water to flush the system. I still need to lose weight before the next weigh-in, with the count down timer to the start of the weigh-in at 12 hours.
The treadmill and my comments are calling me back to work. S'later!
