I kid you not! FREEZE YOUR BACON! it's great!
Here's what happened to me. A local store had Smithfield NATURAL Bacon buy 2 get 3 free! WHAT???!!! and I am doing KETO!!! Well, YES!!! But is there anyone on the planet that likes pulling those slimey slices off the pack and frying them? And the greasy mess on the counter top.
Also, I was the only one in the house that was going to eat it! How would I get through 5 packages? And what if I return to pescatarian in 24 days? What then?
I asked myself, "Can you freeze Bacon Individually? And whats' the best way to store it? How long will it keep?" And myself answered, "Ask on Pinterest! You are not the only one to ask this question!"
Sure enough, many people are doing just this! From what I have read there are two differet styles to freezing bacon. You can roll each slice and freeze them on a small cookie sheet or plate then move to a ziplock bag OR freeze in freezer paper or wax paper or parchment -- laying the slice and then folding over the paper then laying another slice and folding the paper until all the slices are laid out. Put the paper wrapped slices in the freezer. To use just peel off the number of slices you need as you need them!!!!
I went with the paper slice method and not the rolled method.
I used parchment because that is what I had on hand at the time. I will go out and get some freezer paper today when I get more bacon (because the sale ends tonight! I mean who doesnt need 9 packages of frozen bacon in their freezer?).
OK you say, you froze your bacon. Thank you but so what?
Here's what - you get messy once when you get it all prepared for the freezer. When you are using it there is virtually NO MESS! and I like to cut my bacon in half to fit in the skillet better with the eggs and my hubs sweet potatoe hash browns. Thawed regular bacon is hard to slice... it moves.. it's slimy... FROZEN BACON slices easy peasy like a dream! like butter!!!!
I am telling you - today's tip - buy your bacon on sale and FREEZE YOUR BACON!!!
