Your first paragraph sounds so much like me! I'm the neurotic over-planner type. The Hubs has learned to let me plan things, as I like to dive in, study maps, do research, schedule events - all things he loathes doing. This is my first DietBet. After several years of always training for a race -- I'm one of those people that needs a race on the calendar or I'll skimp on training -- I decided to take some time off. I injured a knee last February while training for my first ultra. I'd already planned to take some time off from racing to focus on strength training and burning off some extra fat. When I'm training for races, I fuel & workout to improve endurance & performance as opposed to fueling & working out to lose weight. It was going fairly well. With the exception of being ill & then baking in preparation for Thanksgiving, I've been consistent with my core workouts. I cut my base calories from 2000/day to 1500/day + exercise calories, and with the exception of some days when I've completely lost my mind I've stuck to that. (I eat about 70% of my days calories between breakfast, a morning snack, and lunch. It seems to work!) And then I gave into temptation and signed up for another ultramarathon. I'm facing the challenge of training and trying to burn off extra fat. It's harder than my usual way of doing things, but I know my knees will be a lot happier if they're not supporting a 170-pound runner. ;-)
