All my life I've lived heavily on sugar - candy, pop, sugared cereal, etc. I've also lived heavily on breads and pastas - you name it I'd eat it! This leads me to constant sugar rushes and then crashes soon after, which pushes me to eat more to fix the sluggishness. My average is about 300 carbs a day but some days I hit 600!
While I have become much better at controlling my intake and cravings this year, I still get cravings and slip back in to my old habits. I did a quick inventory of all the food in my house and it is loaded with carbs - I was stunned when I looked just how much it has been in my diet.
For years I've heard about low carb diets like the Atkins Diet, but recently I've dug further into it and have decided to give it a try. This means taking my carb intake from the average 300/day to as little as 20/day! By cutting out almost all carbs, I'm hoping to kick my addiction. I hear the first week is the hardest because the body has to adjust to a new diet, so while I'm not looking forward to that, I'm hopeful that the process will pay off.
The new strategy begins tomorrow and I'm planning to do it for two months to see if the results work for me. I'll keep you posted on my progress!
