What do you consider your "fat boy shields"?
Very hard to put into words. The shields that I assumed protected me are vast. The strut, from my days lifting I have a huge chest and shoulder which masks (or masked) the gut. The colouring/size of clothing. How I looked (or didn't look) at myself in the mirror. Selective of the personality of the people I surrounded myself with. Using humour in situations that were embarrassing. Excusing myself to to catch my breath. The huge amount of diet coke I consumed. Story telling, and vicarious living also. There are so many it would be a whole blog post on its own. And of all things to bring these to light and get me to break out of this it was my kids. They just see right through smoke barriers and have a way of telling it as it is and still loving you. While seeming-less innocent the comments maybe the struck a cord and forced me to heal. I thank God every day for my kids and the loving inspiration that they have provided me. I am excited to finally pay it forward back to them.
