Amen! I too have experienced much of what you describe. A pet peeve of mine is when a well-meaning friend/acquaintance gives you a piece of (unsolicited) advice that is so painfully obvious you can't imagine that it needed to be said at all. I kid you not, I was recently given the following advice from coworkers with good intentions: 1. Well, you have to exercise. (I know. That is why I spend my lunch break doing laps around the block and leave work many days with my workout clothes on.)2. You should cut down on soda. (I literally never drink soda.) 3. Try to cut down on fast food. (Again, I never eat fast food.) I'd like to think that the advice comes from a place of kindness and desire to help, but I am definitely perturbed by the assumptions. Thank you for this piece that allowed me to commiserate. :)

GlampingGal and bahhhhh like this comment.

Thanks for reading! Right? "Hey, I noticed you're fat. Did you know you should eat less food to be not so fat?" Thank you, for that gem of wisdom, I'll be sure to file that away... The assumptions just kill me. And people assume so freely when you're fat. YOU DON'T KNOW MY STRUGGLE! I have a friend who lifts weights like it's her job. She does the highland games, and she's incredibly fit and strong and petite and girly. She's not thin, she wears lots of skirts and jewelry and is ALWAYS well coiffed. People thin-splain to her constantly about the gym and dieting and such, but she could seriously bench press most of them. Like, she's super cute, and she's also super stronger than you. Back up.
