I just returned home from a one day business trip to the middle of pennsylvania. It was about 2 hours away from where I lived and I had to be there by 8:30 in the morning. My colleague who went with me decided to make the trip early in the morning (wake up at 5 and drive), but I knew that this would completely de-rail my progress. Only recently have I started working out in the mornings, and I find that I absolutely love it, since it gives me my whole night back. So, I decided to drive out to Jessup last night and stay at the holiday inn, which is my favorite hotel chain for business travel -- because its very reasonably priced and includes everything (wi-fi, breakfast, gym, pool). Oddly, the more expensive a place is, the less it includes.
I planned everything out very carefully. My overnight bag included my workout gear (headphones, cell phone, shorts, shirt) and my portable yogamat. So, when I woke up this morning at 6:30, I was able to immediately start my 7 minute workout guided by my phone...which for some reason felt very intense. Right after, I went downstairs to the fitness center, which was blissfully empty, hopped on their elliptical for 35 minutes -- went back upstairs to shower and change, then packed up -- brought my suitcase down and had my yummy, though too short breakfast of bacon and eggs.
Luckily, my meeting in Jessup was little more than a walking tour of the facility...so hurrah, I got some steps in. Yay!
I got out of my meeting pretty early, around 11:30, and called my husband, who knew instinctively that my paltry rushed breakfast wouldn't be enough. So, he arranged to meet me about a half hour away from our house at a Luncheonette in Clinton that got great chow hound and yelp eviews (its called The Fine Diner, for anyone who lives in New Jersey).
The fine diner featured home made dressings and sauces, which, if you're a low carb dieter, is fantastic. Home made, likely means its prepared in a traditional fashion. I ordered myself the Merciful Neptune Omelete, which had Swiss cheese, Tomato and Lump crab meat. I also subbed in a mixed green salad with caesar dressing. It came with a small cup of Melon and strawberries, which is on my diet, so Yay! This turned out to be exactly what i needed.
Eating out and living out of hotel rooms can be challenging when you are trying to lose weight. The eating and exercise plan I chose are great for travel because the rules are very basic. Work out: 7 minute Interval strength training (or whatever works for you), 35 minutes of cardio (what ever kind you can). When eating out: Double the veggies, banish the starch!
