Thanks for sharing. I also work at a university, and I know the anxiety that come with the junior ranks of academia. However, apart from everything else I like (or dislike) about it, I also think it can be a great environment to stay fit and motivated, if we make it so. I regularly go on hillwalking trips with students, which can be a tough physical challenge. I also think it's important to demonstrate that being fit and active doesn't have to stop when you graduate. Most of my colleagues are a lot less fit than most of my students, and while the university really does a lot to promote physical activity among the students, programmes for staff, whose long-term health should be at least as important to the university, are mostly about preventing back pain or a "cycle to work week" (while the car park is being extended). If we don't want to be stuck to our chairs when we're 50, it's up to us to do things differently. Good luck on your journey!
