Hey, Deb! Just checking in to see how it's going for you. How's life, girl?

Wednesday is always the best day for us. We are already in Boulder that day, too. Friday would also work, but in Longmont.

COHikerGirl

Ok, I'll give you a call (I've delayed too long ...) to see if you'd like to meet there tomorrow, or a week out ...

Yaaaay, Deb! You won all your DietBet Games -- how totally cool! Time to take a break and take a breath, eh? ;) I've gotta get down to business to win the upcoming round for the my January-July Transformer game ... I'm down in the 170s now (woo-hoo!), but have to drop those last few pounds to get there for the March weigh-in.

My break is over. Time to get back at it.

COHikerGirl

Yes, ma'am! Me, too! I had a 2-day 'break' after my unexpected root canal this past week, which I took up at a cabin in the mountains with some girlfriends, snowhoeing and x-country skiing. Didn't eat badly even so, while up there, and LOTS of activity! Good thing we missed the avalanche on Berthoud by 1 hour, and got over the pass before it hit ...

Ugh! I picked up a cold from my spin class instructor ... bleecchhh! I WAS doing well on exercise and eating, but this'll put a crimp in the exercise, for sure. :/

How are YOU doing? I see you're coming up on finishing THREE of your DietBets. Good luck! :D

Hey, Cupcake Girl! I was wondering if you find the same pattern I do, in the midst of all this. I want to make sure I'm not rationalizing, 'cause I THINK I've settled into a nicely moderated approach ... yeah, I think that's what it is. But maybe I'm just telling myself that.

I find I'm especially good with food for a number of days in a row, and then I let myself indulge for a couple of days ... but I've decided that's a GOOD thing.

Partly 'cause (a) What I call 'indulging' is actually a higher-calorie-but-still-losing figure, or a maintenance level, so it's really not that bad, and (b) I learned that doing that is actually one of the strategies to keep your body happy enough it doesn't feel it needs to go into starvation mode. So, so be it: I'm not always the Diet Queen. ;) And that's just as well, it turns out, because by taking a more "that's ok" kind of attitude, it seems I'm more likely to become the Diet Empress through better consistency over the long run. ;) LOL

Debra S.

I need days where I can eat what I want. That's why I'm taking the fasting approach. Even on my feast days I don't fully compensate for what I didn't eat on a fast day. I don't think I would have lasted this long if I couldn't eat what I wanted at least some of the time. Even when I did Body for Life, I got a cheat day every week. It's a sanity saver. ;)

COHikerGirl

Makes perfect sense, to me. Funny thing for me is that I've found, when I enter everything on MyFitnessPal, that even when I think I'm being REALLY BAD and eating what I want, in reality I'm still exerting some choices that limit the damage, after all ... my calorie count is often lower than I thought it would be, even if the nutrient balance isn't what I'd prefer. Like, LOTS of fat on some days, or LOTS of carbs on another. I can sure see how the feast-and-famine approach would work really well for you, 'cause in essence that's what I fall into naturally. You're so right, about it being a sanity saver -- that "limited leeway" is what makes it livable, I think.

Alright! Closing in on 25 pounds lost, for me, Deb, and you're at a really hugely respectable number of over 15 lbs, yourself. I. Love. DietBet. (How many times can I say 'thank you' before you smack me on the head?)

<3 I'm glad it's working for you. Apparently, it's working for me, too. ;) I'm going to take off the month of February, then I'm going to get back to it. I still have 2 pounds to go by the end of this month. I had a minor setback last week, so I'm trying to catch up.

COHikerGirl

THAT sounds like a plan. I found myself feeling THAT feeling I've had in the past, where I kinda wanted a break from the whole diet-and-exercise-monitoring lifestyle (I pretty much live in my exercise clothes most of the day, 'cause I get up and put 'em on and won't let myself take them off until I've exercised -- silly, eh?). BUT, I'm glad I'm in the DietBet to keep me going, because that's exactly when I've LOST IT, before. So now, I'm reconciled to and feeling good about continuing. Yet I TOTALLY get you taking February off! Just yeah, get those 2 pounds off, first. Do you think you'll be able to MAINTAIN the loss, or will you tick up during February?

Man, it's my turn to be frustrated by the scale, Deb! Just yesterday I got on the scale and was happy to see 185.7, just .7 above my personal goal. So I hit it hard working out, yesterday BIG-time, and ate lightly and healthily ... so this morning the scale reads 187! ARGH!!! I suspect it's 'cause I'm due for a monthly cycle, but REALLY? Oh, well. I'm still under my DietBet round goal, so I won't get all hung up on it, but it's annoying. :}

COHikerGirl

Yeah, I already weighed in for this Round, this morning. But if I walk / work out all day, and if my body doesn't just bloat out on me, I might replace it tomorrow morning (last chance to weigh in). But if past pattern holds true, I typically gain about 3 pounds around my cycle. So I'll just have to go with what I already entered, in all likelihood.

COHikerGirl

With 2 days left of your challenge, you MIGHT just squeak by, if any of that is water weight. But yeah, it's a long shot. Dang it, anyway. SO frustrating when the timing just doesn't work out, even when you're clearly on the right track.

It shouldn't be a problem to use a different scale because I got a new scale and will have to use it to weigh out for my current challenge. I seriously doubt that it's a problem. I'm not worried about doing it.

Debra S.

Here is the official answer from dietbet.

"While it’s highly recommended that you use the same scale for all weigh-ins, it’s not a requirement. You will be able to use any valid scale to submit a photo-based weigh-in for a game. Keep in mind that we are very strict about the 48-hour weigh-in window timing."

The 48 hour window they are talking about is at the end. Dietbets can be started up to 14 days late, but you still finish the same time as everyone else.

Alright, Deb ... today and up until the weigh-in on January 4-5, I'm going to be really kicking it, in order to meet my own PERSONAL goal of reaching 185 lbs. by then. I'm wavering between 187.4 and 188.4, right now ... have to put it into high gear in order to get there, so I've dropped my calorie intake goal, and am stepping up the exercise sessions. How're you doing?

COHikerGirl

12/30/2013 11:12AM
Deb ... I'm going to get out there in the sunshine today and frickin' hit it. I have to climb out of this depression right away; can't let it take hold of me. It's stupid, besides, 'cause I've done so well, and I know I WILL do well. I'll check back in, tonight, to report on today's efforts (eating and exercising AND emotionally). Must. Overcome. Backslide!

Debra S.

Haven't you already surpassed your goal for this portion of the challenge? That'll give you a cushion. You are so hard on yourself. I know you'll bounce back. That's how you are. Anything you don't lose this time, you can make up for in the next challenge. ;)

COHikerGirl

Yes, you are completely, totally, entirely right. Even while I'm beating myself for a minor backslide, I beat myself further because I KNOW I'm being ridiculous to feel so bad about it, 'cause overall I'm doing really extremely well. Maybe I'm just worried it'll 'take hold of me' and I'll lose control from here! No ... I can't let that happen. Somehow anything less than perfection feels like a failure, but I know **in my head** how foolish that is. I think that to SNAP OUT OF IT (slap me!), I just have to kick it hard today and tomorrow and the rest of this week, to TRULY remind myself how well I'm doing, and just overcome this little aberration. I have to COUNTER it, can't just let it lie there.

This is ridiculous. I'm all depressed, but I KNOW better than that! I've lost SO much weight already, but for the very first time in this competition, I actually put ON 1 pound this week -- and I knew it was likely and thought I had given myself permission to 'just maintain' for Christmas to indulge in a few of those baked treats the neighbors brought over for us (ummm, gee, "thanks"). I was fully aware of the choice I was making, and it SEEMED like a good idea to "not feel deprived" by allowing a slight digression over the holiday, but now I'm wishing I hadn't. Hey ... it's only 1 frickin' pound, and I KNOW what I need to do, so I am dead certain I'll recover. But at this particular moment, it feels crappy. :( I could use some encouragement, today ...
