Rebecca, I spent 3 weeks at biggest loser resort in southern Utah and can tell you what I learned is no matter how you slice it, it's about fuel in vs fuel out. Consume less calories than you burn. Search the web for a RMR calculator and find out what you burn in your daily life the set a reasonable calorie intake. Every 3500 calories you burn above what you take in you lose 1 lb. I've dropped 110lbs in the past 18 months, you can do this!
