  • Just accomplished a big 2017 cycling goal: 5000 miles on the bike for the year.

Strava anyone? Strava and Garmin Connect are notably absent from DietBet. It would be a pretty awesome addition. Find me as "Keith Donaldson".

We're joining a group ride tomorrow, 100km. This will be the longest so far and I am really concerned about my speed. I just don't seem to have strong enough legs for this... :(
any at home exercises you can recommend???

Just a general rule, too: seat too far back, pain in back of knee; seat too far fwd, pain in front of knee. http://www.ilovebicycling.com/fore-aft-saddle-position/

I just bought this bike, so I am going to take it in and see if they fit it for me.

Weigh-in month 3 a success. I've struggled this past week getting in miles. My son had surgery, so hoping that in a few days I can get back to it.

I started cycling in May. I still feel like a newbie, but I have ridden over 500 miles since I began. I love it. I love receiving advice and tips from others!

Last week: 156 miles. I'm slowly able to handle more miles. BTWD was Wed, and I was my company's coordinator, with a good turnout. Unfortunately, a busted lawn mower required much more of my attention over the week-end, limiting my riding. Back on it today on the commute miles. Looking forward to a nice ride on the 4th of July.

I pretty much haven't ridden in 2 weeks. I did buy a bike last weekend though. I'm a little stressed over the cost, but excited to have something that actually works compared to what I have been using.
The rain started last weekend and hasn't stopped. Today looks good, so i'm hoping to do a couple of km's tonight.

OK, my weekly update: another week of 120+ miles completed, but it took some effort the past 3 days as I had a busy work week. I have a little 17.3 mile time trial course I do, and today I compared my time with 2 years ago (before I got injured, then fat), and I'm almost 28.5% slower. The old adage is 1% faster for 1 kg weight loss, so I'm 62 lbs from being that fast again. About right: shortly after this, I was 60 lbs lighter than I am now. #DangleTheCarrot

How often and far do you ride each week? and how do you fit those longer rides into your schedules?

@Mindy S.? For me, I'm 14 miles from work, with a shower there waiting. Biking versus car gives me 1:45 worth of exercise versus 45 min of stressed driving. Longer rides sometimes on Sat/Sun, and even with work conflicts, I'm about 120 miles/wk right now. By the end of summer, I should have a 200-mile week, but I don't go more than that.

Summers in the NorthEast go really fast so I fit it in wherever I can. A longer ride on the weekends and 2 - 3 rides week days. I like vacations in which I can get in some good rides. Last year we got to do a bit of vacation riding in Maine. Loved it! I'm working on doing more bike commuting but not quite there yet.

I'm in. I have hip injuries so I can't do any cardio but cycling. It's working for me. I did 1,500 miles last year and hope to do more than that this year. I'm concentrating on increasing my speed and climbing more hills. I like to remind myself that hills are my friend! Biking helped me with weight loss last year, I'm counting on it again.
