Popcorn? No, not only popcorn but for a snack it’s excellent low calorie snack.  I am a night snacker and to not have some kind of finger food keeps me awake at night! Enter popcorn. More specifically, microwave popcorn, but not the bag stuff. The one I have is the Presto Powerpop Microwave Corn Popper.  (hint buy extra Presto Powercup Concentrator inserts – even though you can reuse them several times, you don’t want to run out!)

After reading it on Pinterest, I read and did use a brown paper lunch bag for awhile.  That worked really great, but then someone mentioned the ‘glues’ used in making the bag…. Hhmmm… so I stopped.  I don’t know how they would be different than the glues used making any microwave popcorn bag, do you? But…

I also have hot air popcorn popper but does anyone like PLAIN popcorn? I don’t think so.  So what you do is spray it with Pam.  I don’t like using Pam.  On top of the stove is best but then you have more oils and calories.

Calories: Popcorn has basically 60 calories an unpopped tablespoon and basically, if every kernel pops, will pop up to 2 cups of popcorn.

But what do you put on it?  I have popped it with olive oil. That’s ok. My husband has been using grapeseed oil and I have to say, I kinda like that. I will use small amount of butter on top of the kernels and I really like that best. However, because butter is made with a milk product, I don’t reuse the concentrator after 24 hours.  That’s just me I think, but that’s me and what I do.

The oil keeps the flavor on the kernels. Notice I didn’t say salt! NO SALT! What I like to use is…. Taco seasoning! That’s right I will buy a McCormick’s Taco seasoning packet, and pour it into a clean empty spice jar and sprinkle it onto my popcorn! Why? Why because I don’t like plain popcorn and I do like tacos. <silly> I am still working on a packet from months ago! Now a whole packet is only 120 calories and 2000mg sodium per packet but again… I am only using sprinkles and so its not really much.  I also used a flavor packet of paneer tikka masala the same way. We agreed it was just as tasty!

So there you have it. If you are a nighttime – finger food grabbing – snacker like myself, popcorn is your friend!
