Vegas doesn't have to be a diet disaster. First of all you do so much walking, you'll easily get 10K steps in -- When I went there for my brothers wedding I actually averaged something like 20k steps per day. Also, the restaurants aren't as bad as all that. Yes, there are a lot of buffets, but if you know where to go (and yelp makes this easy), you can easily find healthy options. I'm a low carb dieter, so the rules with me are always the same - double the vegetables, banish the starch. There is a great hotel only a block off the center of the strip (right next to the miracle mile) that gives great service and will only charge 20 or so dollars a night for a suite upgrade (and the rooms are pretty cheap to begin with), which comes with a fully modern kitchen. The hotel is called the carriage house and is worth looking into, if not for this trip, than the next. When my fiancé (now husband) went there for a vacation last year, we upgraded to the suite and were so happy with it. The place also had a fitness center, which I actually managed to use. We ended up buying breakfast and lunch ingredients for the week and only having dinners out. By the way, I recommend Hugo's Cellar on the old strip for one special dinner. Its like a very romantic time warp.
