I tried donating blood yesterday as we are on an 8 week schedule all last year and for the first time my hemogloben was too low! That has never happened to me before!
I went home, untapped, and did some research.
This week my plan is to eat...
Breakfast: 1/2 cup Oatmeal + 1 T Chia seeds + 1 t cinnamon + 1 T sugar = 250-300 cal (8% iron)
Lunch or Dinner: 2 c sauteed spinach leaves + 2 eggs + chopped onions + seasoning = 200-250cal (18% iron)
Lunch or Dinner: 1c sauteed spinach leaves (5%) + 1 can of blackbeans (52.5%) + chopped onions = 420 cal and 57.5% iron divided in half with hubby = 210 calories & 28.75% iron
Snacks today will be 1 banana 121 cal (2% iron) + 1 serving cashews 160 cal (5%) + 1/4 c rais1ns 108 cal (4% iron) ..... ginger tea w/sugar
so ... adding this up... that should be.. 1149 calories (which is good cause you know I am gonna cheat and have I don't know a couple of big bowls of popcorn!!!)OH and I WILL BE eating salad of some sort with dinner and yogurt too.... I love greek yogurt - I am soo addicted to it!!! I can't go a day w/o it! ... and hint, if you have not tried drinking hot tea of some sort (caffiene free is fine - really hot flavored water) and finding out how filling that is... try it! Oh you have to drink the cup of hot flavored water and wait like 15 minutes for your brain to recognize it then it's really filling. It's something about the 'hot' vs 'cold' that makes you feel fuller...??? I am making some hot water for ginger tea right now! ;-)
anyway this is my plan for the next 5 days (we will see how long it really goes) so that I can raise my iron count and donate... platelets I guess so that I can stay on our share blood donation schedule. ;-)
