Personally, I have never bought into specific foods at specific meals or times of day. In fact I have heard that we, Americans in general, eat in the wrong order. We eat our biggest meal before bed, and smallest in the morning. And WHO came up with 3 meals instead of 2 big meals or 5 medium to small meals a day?
A historic ENGLISH breakfast is HUGE! We found this out almost ... what... 10 or 15 years ago when hubs took me on the trip of a lifetime to jolly old england! So there is a huge sausage - definately not a american rolled sausage turd.. but more like a meal sized sausage + a slice of ham (thick not thin) + and egg, usually over easy on a thick toast and sliced tomatoe AND a bit of beans (looked and tasted to be boston baked beans) --- that is a typical english breakfast!
I told you this to get you prepared for what I am having for breakfast today -- Blackbeans + shopped onion + spinach + egg! It's really quite tasty. And all iron rich foods as if you have been reading my blog posts you know that I am trying to raise my hemoglobin just a point or two so I can donate blood.
I had planned to have my normal Oatmeal + Chia for breakfast but before I could make mine, I got a call from the bloodbank to tell me that they REALLY REALLY need my blood. I explained that I planned to give platelets this time so that hubs and I could stay on schedule together and he gave whole blood Sunday. (You can give whole blood like 3 days after giving just platelets!!!) I have a rare bloodtype and now they know my phone number and email, they tend to call me often hahaha.
Now this is also an experiment on how well diet effects us physically. I was only like a point shy of having a good hemoglobin count. Thursday we will see what my diet plan for this week has done to that number! I will say that I was up just a few points on the scale, which is disappointing, but I am going to attribute to the added salt (beans w/o salt are just... mush) and today I will attempt to drink more water! (hot water cause oh baby it's cold outside!)
Got any suggestions for me and my food choices to higher hemoglobin?
How about Breakfast? What do you eat everyday?
And for my shameless plug...
