Today is day three of my Fat Fast and really the start of day two of a serious fat fast.  I have to say that I actually feel different today. I am not hungry and while I am not super energetic, I have more energy than I thought I would have today. I actually thought today would be a struggle to endure my self limited food choices.  So far, nothing could be further from the truth.  It was after noon on the clock before I started to feel hungry!  Now I did have 3 or 6 cups of coffee with cream (no sweetner nor sugar). That might have helped me starve off hunger. Or was it the ketosis.

I have continued to read daily about Ketosis and Low Carb and just a couple of days ago, Fat Fast.  Back 15 or so years ago I did Atkins successfully. I was down to a healthy weight and then I ... fell off the Atkins Low Carb wagon and began eating everything and anything I wanted. Bad Choices not only brought the weight back on over about 5 years... but doubled what I had lost!

In 2015 I joined my first Dietbet game, swearing never to 'diet' again and only make better food choices. That worked for me pretty well.  I lost 90 of the 100 pounds I set as a goal to lose. (disclaimer - I set that 100 pound goal after about 3 successful months in Dietbet games... I started only wanted to lose 20 puonds that year! I LOVE DIETBET!)

I am doing a fat fast because I read ... I want to say it was on Keto Happiness facebook page or website... but I am not sure and I didn't save the url! BUT I seem to remember the writer saying that after a day or so of fat fasting she wasnt hungry and had to really force herself to eat. That's kinda what i felt like this morning when I got up. And even now. Not hungry like I was Monday - Thursday... and Friday.. not so hungry but not really not hungry like today.

BUT What is the difference between Low Carb vs Keto Diet vs Fat Fast and how do they effect my weight.

I read a Q and A forum where the Q was someone complaining that they had been in ketosis with a pink stick for 3 weeks and had lost NOTHING! Been there. Done that. The A to that Q was interesting and peaked my interest in my title question.  The A was that just being pink on the stick, while did indicate a loss of extra ketones, it did not mean that the body was burning stored fat.  Also, just burning stored fat did not mean automatic weight loss if you are eating way more than you should for your caloric needs.

hmmm.... so... when they say if you are low carb you dont need to count calories and you can eat all you want as long as you keep you carbs down... 'they' don't really mean that! Calories count a little..!!! hhhmmmm

Also, not only is it carbs that contribute to weight gain or loss but it is also how your body (your liver specifically) chooses it's energy source - carb or fat or fat stored! Those of us dieting to lose weight want our body to choose to use fat stored!

And I think that is where short term (2-3 days) fat fasts work best.  NOW it's just my opinion and I am not a doctor nor nutritionist.  But, in my head, I am thinking that I want my body to use my stored fat before telling me to eat again. I think that is the fat fast. You don't stop eating. You just stop eating large protein and carb and replace that with fattier foods for a few days.

Oh and there was something about when you realize that you arent hungry so much and you start forgetting to eat your lunch or something like that... then... then you are most likely in ketosis because you body IS using it's fat stores for energy and doesnt need you to eat.

OK that makes sense.....

But if the pee stick turns pink for Low Carbers and Keto Dieters and Fat Fasters... what is the difference?

Low Carbers typically keep thier daily carbs below 45% and from what I can tell doesnt really talk about a protein to fat to carb ratio. 

Keto Dieters however are encouraged to try to keep their intakes 65% fat + 30% protein + 5% carbs

Fat Faster... and this should be short term dieting... you are about to see why... 90% fat the 10% should be Protien + carbs your choice.... but 90% fat???? that is a challenge! You can subtract fiber from your total carb amount, but still ... what foods are these? Am I to eat.. Butter by the stick?  No, you can eat cream cheese by the spoon! haha (no wait... I am kinda serious!)

But I think I got very close yesterday by eating 5 strips of bacon for breakfast. If I remember correctly I had bacon and egg for lunch and supper was bacon again. I snacked on those spoonfuls of cream cheese and some olives.  I might have had one serving of pork rinds also.  Maybe a slice of cheese. IT ISNT EASY EATING HIGH FAT!!! FAT DOES NOT CRUNCH!!! But I stuck with it yesterday and today... I was surprised to wake up a pound down and not so hungry.  (oh coffee with heavy whipping cream is also almost pure fat!)

Now I don't know what my arteries are doing... if I stop posting say a prayer for me!  But I am doing it again today and I hope to see a scale SWOOSH Sunday or Monday mornings!

Finally - don't change your diet based on what I am doing.  I am trying to be healthy and make healthy choices long run.  I really am doing this because I have an old friend who swears by the KETO DIET and I told her I would give it a 28 day shot.  The fat fast is because on of the keto games I am in, the leader suggested a 2 day fast to get into ketosis faster.... purely optional... and didn't like the idea of not eating... cus.. you know.. I like to eat! ;-) which is why I am a member of Dietbet! haha!

I have 21 days left in three games! I really would like to end them a winner.  (Getting close to goal makes losing weight and wining games harder.. that holiday eating did help though... help me put weight on!) Let's do this thing! Let's lose weight and win games!!!
