Stepping Into the Abyss

Thank you for sharing this very personal story. It touched me on many levels. First, I am sorry for the strife in your life; I have been there and really understand how frustrating, infuriating, hurtful and sad it can be. I learned 3 years ago that my 19 year old daughter was a serious drug addict and we have been through 2 stints of rehab and she has now been clean for almost a year (and living with us). The first year I ate and drank my emotions - the seductive abyss. The last 2 years I learned exactly what you said - giving into the comfort of the abyss is an illusion and one that only makes you feel worse about everything. When everything around you is out of control, you are so very right, what you can control is how you care for yourself. I learned to take comfort in nourishing myself, losing weight, exercising and getting stronger, healthier and more fit. That was my anchor in the storm. Welcome back home, we missed you.
