You know what though? "Normal" people I know who are healthy and have never been overweight don't make food choices like we do. Sure they might have a desert one night. But they dont have as many bites as we do. They don't have to force themselves to put the spoon down. We order a fried starter dish, they by choice chose the healthier soup or salad. And they wanted to eat it! They didn't choose it because its low calorie. It's years of routine and discipline that make being healthy a way of life. For us, we're leaving behind years of bad choices and bad routines. Like an addict quitting drugs, alcohol or cigarettes, we are fighting against suger and salt! Those cravings won't ever go away, we just have to make our minds stronger than the urge to splurge! We have to clear our houses of the temptation and make our friends stop peer pressuring us to "have fun" and give up on our personal health goals! For us, its a life long battle and maaaaybe someday we won't crave to eat an entire pizza all by ourselves. But for now, we have to keep fighting! I think we can do it! ;)

Precisely. Knowing that even the types and quantities of food can have an impact on your caloric expenditure makes everything we're doing, at best, a complete guess. But we can guess smartly, as you've said. But ultimately, are we making healthy choices, active choices, and choices for longevity – or are we simply playing the numbers game. Playing the game leads me to momentary happiness with valleys of despair, whilst simply developing good habits pushes me ever so gradually upward. I choose health and life, and let the numbers fall where they may. :D

Amen on the water weight! No matter what weight I am, whether overweight as now or at goal weight, my weight fluctuates 5 to 8 lbs each month. I ALWAYS have to have 2 sizes of pants, no matter what weight I am. Frustrating.

I like LizzyinJapan's recommendations! I struggle with this a lot too, as you know. I've actually been hermiting a bit lately because I know if I go out with people I'll eat too much, or drink, etc. Doing things unrelated to eating sounds like a great plan. Let's do stuff together!
