I have a lot of weight to lose, and am starting with simple low carb (avoiding sugars and grains, eating when I'm hungry and stopping when I'm full). No formal exercise yet, just daily tasks.
I've been finding great recipes in Eating Well magazine. I recently got a great Chinese cookbook and I'm happy to find that a lot of the recipes are definitely within my calorie budget. Yay for finding good things to eat!
Starting strategy: * Diet will be Primal / Paleo. Goal is 50-100 g carbs daily. Avoid grains & sugars. Focus on eating meats, vegetables and healthy fats (animal fats, olive oil, avocado) with limited fruit & dairy. * Goal of one bodyweight exercise per day (pushups, squats & planks) * Monitor activity level using Fitbit. I'll use the data I collect over the next couple of weeks to set future activity/exercise goals.
I was doing really well in the Transformer that started in January, but then I lost my momentum and couldn't recover. :-( I hope my friends in that game have done better!
The bad news is: I've regained all the weight that I lost.
The good news is: I'm back to try again! This time, my goal is not to just make successful changes, but to make those changes permanent.
Come on Lori, you can do it!! Remember, when we are tempted to give in to something that looks great, we don't have to say "no" forever, but just this one time, we will!
Hi Lori - I'd like to gain a friend for this dietbet challenge. I just finished a 4-week one (with my husband and daughter), but I'm not doing this one with anyone else. We're pretty close here - I'm a 45-year-old mom of 3. I've lost 45 pounds but have a ways to go. I set a lot of smaller goals for myself - my current one is losing an additional 19 pounds. It will bring my BMI two points lower.
Round 1 was easy. I had been on a 4-week dietbet, actually came in below my goal for round 2,which had me a little worried that I'd coast, so I joined another 4-week. I need that shorter deadline motivation! The weekly weigh ins here are helpful too. It looks like we are actually close to the same track, loss-wise.Good going!
