The problem with getting into the groove is that a groove baldly implies bumps in the road. And bumps there are! Friends passing through on a XC move from CO to DC (a little out of the way, but all good for the geographically inclined editors) and we had to take them to our favorite local spot, the tasting room of a small brewing company that serves great wood-fired oven pizzas and wings. Now, we are packing for a trip to Maine, which means travel rations and eating higher on the food chain than being at home allows. But, Maine also provides the possibility of more active days, cooler days, and perhaps some biking.
Not trying to be the Complainy, Negative Nelly type. These are first world problems (#FirstWorldProblems) really: we get to visit family, drive to Canada, hang out for a week with limited wi-fi and therefore limited connectivity to work demands and the sense of impending doom that comes at the end of a teacher's summer as Day 1 approaches. Not a bad way to spend the otherwise hot and sultry August.
And truely, I did sign up for DB with this trip in mind, perhaps as a side bet to remain true to the longer term goals rather than using the 'vaca' as an excuse to slip to weaker food and exercise choices. And, wrt DietBet, this has been a fun start, with a surprisingly robust and friendly community (shameless plug to any readers who have invested time to read even this far!). Probably due to DB, I have been meeting most of my goals, have been recording daily weights, exercise, and food logs. I have been to two disc golf courses, which may prove to be my fun form of exercise over the next 6 months of this challenge.
On a side note, a la Bill Maher: "New Rule: Maine has to invest in disc golf courses north of Bangor." There are 5 disc golf courses within 15 miles of home; none in northeastern Maine.
So, back to the topic at hand. To get into the groove as I approach my one week mark, the challenge becomes one of logistics: getting nutrition in a rented house in Maine away from my blender (no smoothies for breakfast), away from my scale (no ongoing clue about my progress), and away from the mostly homemade food we prepare in our kitchen. There will be bumps on the road to Maine and back, and hopefully I will be able to report continuing progress towards the 3% minigoal. When I return, not much time will remain before the first official 1-month DietBet weigh-in.
The challenge is staying in the groove when you go off-roading.
