I was really expecting to lose this bet in the middle there. The scale was hardly moving, but I finished with 2 pounds to spare! I only made small changes, cutting out the second serving of sweets, not eating late (with a couple, mindful exceptions) and drinking so, so much more water than usual. I hardly excercise- (I put the blame on my rower falling apart) but I know I can do more. This was the low hanging fruit. I have 30+ more pounds I could lose and I think, eventually, it's attainable with a few more small changes and staying consistent.

I had given up too thanks, but somehow pulled it off with some grit at the end! I hope you find some time and space for some joyful movement!

Referee Grace

Consistent, sustainable changes are EVERYTHING, Sarah! Congrats on your win!

Anyone have tips for lifting weights and still losing weight on the scale?
This seems to be where I get off track as I know the weight on the scale is muscle. I tend not to lift weights while I am doing a dietbet so I can reach the goal, but I'd like to figure out how to still lose weight on the scale AND lift weights

Unless you are getting absolutely swole, you're not gaining more muscle than the fat you're burning. A muscle that gets used burns calories at rest. It's not just the actual workouts that make body builders need more calories, it's that they are in a constant passive caloric deficit. If your BMI or body fat % is getting REALLY low, then you'd be in that realm, but odds are, you're not there yet.

There is some great advice here, Janae! I think it's all about finding the right balance between strength training and cardio. Lifting weights can definitely lead to some water retention due to inflammation in the muscles, so make sure you are incorporating enough rest days and staying hydrated! Have you ever tried pilates? That can also be a great way to tone without lifting heavy weights :)

For as awful as having a flu has been, I gotta say that not having any cravings but water has been absolutely astoundingly helpful. It really derailed my "burn from both ends" hope of diet AND exercise, but at least I'm making thoughtful selections about what I eat. Fever laid me out for 2 days and a lingering cough is keeping me from getting my heart rate up much but I should take that as a sign to stretch and be gentle.

Hope you are feeling better today! Losing weight due to being sick is never fun - hope you are building strength to get back to eating and lightly exercising as you fully recover, Sarah.

Hi all. It's been a few years since I've had access to a gym. I'm in a rural now and it's so discouraging to not have the same social structure as when I did HIIT/functional fitness classes. Anything like that is an hour away and so expensive. I get so discouraged exercising alone but don't have money for good equipment or subscriptions.... basically I've used it all as am excuse and have done nothing for over 2 years. I'm the heaviest I've ever been, including pregnancies. I'm turning 44 this year and I want to get back to being the lady who literally can climb mountains and deadlift my husband.
I guess I'm fortunate in the fact that I got here by doing nothing so I'm hoping that doing SOMETHING will make a difference.
I've done challenges in the past and found them satisfying. I look forward to having people who are excited for my success keeping me accountable.

Hi Sarah! I know it's not the same as going to the gym or a fitness class, but I definitely recommend looking up some workouts on YouTube. I think once you find a trainer you like, it can be very motivating! I hope you find what works for you!
